Russian version
Did you know that...
-We won the championship in 1996 by a single point! The score was
Brandeis - Harvard - NYU
133 133 134
-Our team's name is "Club Znakomstv". No wonder we usually talk about girls and love.
-It is a tradition in our team to write each other a poem on our birthdays.
-Captain's part for our games is usually written on the last day. For our final Boston game we did it on
the way to Boston! For the game in Chicago, Yan compiled his number on
the last day before the game. What do you know - in both cases it
received the highest marks.
-Our uniform (white suits and black turtle necks and pants) were not our original idea. Originally we
wanted to perform in NYU sweatshirts, then it was a suit with a scarf and only a week before our first
game we decided on our present uniform. We think it really stands out.
-All of our material, believe it or not, is actually written by us!
-After this May there will be only one NYU student left in our team (Boris Yezersky). All others are
either graduated or are graduating.
-Yan Kashepava and Roman Yusupov are the only members that spent their entire college career at NYU.
-Alik Polevoy is the only member who has a beard. Igor' Dayen is the only one who has a wife and a child.
(The question is what is better????????)
-Two of our club members (Alik Polevoy and Boris Yezersky) share the same birthday day with four years
apart. This seems strange since Alik is one of the funniest guys on the team and Boris is one of the
most serious guys.
-Our captain (Yan Kashepava) and the captain of KBH MIT (Grisha Goldberg) also share the same birthday
date but our captain is older and, hence, wiser!
-We usually attend other teams games even if it means another trip to Boston.
-In our first game with MIT in New York we had only 3 members of the jury!
The other 3 didn't show up - big mistake.
-Our favorite subject for the jokes is girls and love.
-The famous answer of Brandeis team to our razminka question during the final game "Which classic is
the most popular in the world?" was "Coca Cola Classic". This answer, even though not required from
Brandeis, since the question was for the Harvard team, gave Brandeis the win in this part and an ovation
from the audience. But did you know that it was our own answer! We had to give our second option,
which was born right on stage since we never imagined any team coming up with our answer.
-Roman Bronshtein is a very funny guy. He can laugh on stage while performing, this is what we are
usually afraid of. He is also the only member who doesn't live in the state of New York. He lives in New
Jersey, but always comes to our rehearsals on weekends.
-Our biggest problem was finding a responsible and interested musician for the team. In our games
last year and this year we had 5(!) different musicians. Finally we found Znenya who is very talented
and for now he is our musician and a team member.
-Our geography is diverse. We have people from Baky, Andizhan, Kishinev, Vinniza, Odessa, Minsk and Kiev.
-None of us has a degree higher than a bachelor. On the contrary almost all of Harvard's team has
PhD or at least master's degree. We guess, they unlike us spend more time studying then playing KBH.
-Since we have two Romans, we decided that we will call Roman Bronshtein - Romtzya. That way there
will be no confusion.
-All of us are old enough to go to the bar and have a drink. Youngest (Borya) is 22 and oldest (Romtzya
and Igor') are 31.
-We have a standard order of standing for privetstvie:
Roma - Igor' - Yan - Alik - Sergei
-Russian Club of NYU is the base of KBH-NYU. No wonder, since Roman Yusupov was the President of
the Russian Club and Boris Yezersky is the President now. The youngest one rules!
-Boris is also our administrator, which means he takes care of advertisement, promotion, technical services,
requisit and other business. It is a dirty job but someone has to do it. And Borya does it great!
-Sergei and Romtzya are the only people who smoke (bad idea)
-Roman is the most (or the only) religious person in our team. Mazol Tov!
-There are 6 KBH teams in Boston (Brandeis, MIT, Harvard, Boston University,
Bentley and Unified Boston team) and only two in New York. Common you New
Yorkers - make your teams, we are tired of playing with Bostonians.
-Igor' Dayen is also a good chess player. As a member of NYU chess team he won Pan-American championship!
What is the secret of his success? Alik Polevoy and lots of beer. When Alik travels with him, Igor' is drunk
and undefeated. Talk about lucky charms!
-Our majors are as diverse as we are. We have Alik and Sergei as computer science people, Igor' - economy and
physics, Yan - computer science and politics, Romtzya - electrical engineering, Roman - philosophy and
Borya is yet to decide.
-We travel together not only to KBH games. We actually like to spend our vacation together as well. We went
to Cape Code together last September, Yan, Roman and Alik went skiing during winter break of 1995, Roma and
Alik went to Cancun together during winter break of 1996 and Sergey and Alik went to Dominican Republic
during winter break of 1997.
-From the time KBH was created at NYU till present there were 23 guys and 11 girls who were KBH members
of NYU. Now it is only 8 guys and 1 girl.
-Yan (the captain) is a huge fan of the "Beatles". He collects many memorabilia of them. He is also obsessed
with the Kennedy assassination. Would it surprise you if we told you that Yan wants to be an FBI agent!
-Sergei is the source of many jokes. Not that he creates them on purpose, we just collect them during our
conversations with him. Sometimes his acts and behavior give us interesting and funny ideas that we present
to the audience with a great success.
-We like to communicate through e-mail. In good days the amount of messages we send to each other per day
reaches 500! We wanted to submit this record to the Guiness book but then decided that we want records in
KBH not in e-mail.
-We received the best event award last year from NYU officials for the game New York - Boston that was held
at NYU.
-We won our final game in Boston at the same day Yankees won the World Series. Two champions from New York
were crowned at one day!
-Yan, Sergey, Romtzya and Boris have cars. However, we all can drive... each other crazy.
-Igor' Tzukrov is the President of the American KBH league. He is also the captain of sbornoi Bostona.
-After our performance in Atlantic City during XAI - Novie Armyane game, Maslyakov was very excited.
When asked about our performance, he summarized his feelings towards us in one word - "Great!!!"
-Lenya Muchnik is a great theory maker of how to play KBH. No wonder since he played this game for 10 years!
By the way it was hard for him to adjust at first since in his former team back in Kishinev he was the
captain and all of the members, except him, were females!
-Our new female addition to the team, Alla, is an aerobic instructor and a
great dancer!
-Alik very often creates interesting thoughts. One of them is his signature on e-mail: "E-mail is not a
luxury, it is a mean of communication". Very deep thought, Alik!
-Roman Yusupov is a despot and a devil during rehearsals, especially during the last ones, For those who
do not know their words and think it is ok, they do not know Roman! However on stage he turns into
a savior angel for those who forgot their words. No wonder, he knows the whole tekst and not just his
own part. Igor', Yan and Sergey can testify to that.
-We don't have sponsors, but it is not a problem for us. We manage to organize games without anyone's
financial assistance. We were the first team to rent and have a game at Linkoln High School (very popular
place of Russian performers) and this speaks for itself. For suggestions contact Boris - it is his domain.
-Boris was the host of the first American KBH festival' that was held at NYU. Maybe that is why WMNB
showed this event over and over again. So Boris is also our Maslyakov!
-On May 30th, 1997 we were working as interpreters for the group of well
known Russian artists who came to the US to entertain the Russian audience
with their best new songs. At the end we entertained them! The concert
was held in Radio City Music Hall.
-Roman, Leonid and Yan watch almost all KBH games held in Moscow. Alik
and Romzya, on the opposite, don't watch them because they think it will
interfere with their own texts and ideas! The rest of us, Boris, Igor'
and Sergey, watch these KBH games when they have time.
More to come!
